Overview

www.powerleague.org.uk is a web-based customisable resource that ranks items voted by participants to produce a league table. Great for gathering group opinions, initiating group discussions and reaching consensus.

Benefits

It's engaging, free and easy. Suitable for all age groups, enabling you to easily consult with a wide range of groups online, including: parents, governors, students and more. It has a ready made 'new school design' league. Or you can create one to contain whatever you wish to consult people on.

What you do

Choose from three options:

  • Use an existing league. A school re-design league is one of those available.
  • Make a private copy of an existing league - and start voting from scratch.
  • Set up a new league on any topic you choose:
  • Once the league is set up, send out a newsletter or email inviting people to visit the league and cast their votes.
  • Set up a group discussion meeting, asking people to debate their choices in small groups. This is an excellent tool for provoking debate as you have to choose one over another - and the choice can be very hard!
  • Use the league results to inform your consultation process.

  • Be well prepared
  • Consider changing your usual meeting environment
  • Know what you want to come away with before you start
  • Break the ice with a warm up
  • Give people enough time to get into and do the activities
  • Keep people engaged and motivated
  • Encourage and proactively get input from everyone
  • Think about how your going to capture the notes
  • Use flip charts, coloured post its, coloured pens, paper, stickers
  • If possible use a flexible and effective facilitator
