Customise scenarios

Overview

Our 6 scenarios are drawn from a wealth of background research and evidence from leading specialists in their fields. You'll find them highly flexible, so feel free to draw your own conclusions! Now try customising them to make them more relevant to you and those taking part.

Preparation

  • Review the 6 future scenarios.
  • Print out the worksheet to take notes on recommended changes.

What you do

  • Review each scenario in turn, noting on the worksheet where you feel the scenario isn't relevant to your situation. (You may choose to work with all 6 scenarios, or focus on a preferred scenario).
  • Decide how to make the scenario(s) more relevant to you/the group, considering for example:
    • local demographics
    • climate and environmental situation and risks
    • local industry
    • local population trends
    • the Wikipedia entry for your local area
    • your local area profile on www.UpMyStreet.com
  • Review all the background research and papers here (scenario evidence bank).
  • Rewrite any parts of the editable scenarios based on what you now know about your local area.

Top tips for your group activities

  • Be well prepared
  • Consider changing your usual meeting environment
  • Know what you want to come away with before you start
  • Break the ice with a warm up
  • Give people enough time to get into and do the activities
  • Keep people engaged and motivated
  • Encourage and proactively get input from everyone
  • Think about how your going to capture the notes
  • Use flip charts, coloured post its, coloured pens, paper, stickers
  • If possible use a flexible and effective facilitator
